The charge to the Meisterschale continues, but it just got harder

Match details

Location: Allianz Arena, Munich, Germany

Kickoff: 3:30 PM, 10:30AM EST, 7:30 AM EST

Bayern Munich begin the second of three successive league games in the buildup to their Champions League showdown with Inter Milan. After a disappointing 1-1 away draw against Union Berlin, it’s time for a home game against St. Pauli. The last time Kiezkickers were at the Allianz in December 2010, they lost 3-0. Will it be the same thing now or will they have other plans? They aren’t exactly doing great, hovering just above the relegation zones.

Team news

The bombshell news that Bayern just got is that Alphonso Davies and Dayot Upamecano are both out for extended periods of time (Davies up to 9 months, Upamecano up to 6 weeks), which is unwelcome news for Vincent Kompany. That means he’ll have to go with this lineup:

It’s basically the best possible lineup Bayern can put out against Pauli. With Bayer Leverkusen breathing down their necks, it’s not wise to experiment. Jonas Urbig starts in goal. with a defence of Hiroki Ito, Eric Dier, Kim Min-jae, and Josip Stanisic in front of him. The pivot will be Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka, while a front four of Jamal Musiala, Leroy Sané, Michael Olise, and Harry Kane will look to inflict damage on the basement boys.

Have you got suggestions for how Kompany should set the team up? Let us know in the comments!
