The club is looking at roles off the pitch for Müller, while he is not ready to hang his boots yet…
Bayern Munich has sorted out important contract extensions that have achieved a lot of clarity for the club and the players involved. However, with the situation of Thomas Müller, the club still has work to do.
Reportedly, there is a divergence in what the two parties want from each other. Müller is not ready to retire. While Bayern do prefer to keep Müller, the club prefers a role in the business side.
Müller is nearing the end of his contract with Bayern Munich. Per a report by Sport Bild (via @iMiaSanMia), Bayern held negotiations with Müller over the international break to discuss his future. The executive for sport Max Eberl along with Christoph Freund met with Thomas to discuss the sporting side of things. It is learnt that Müller’s preference is to play another season in Bayern colors but the club isn’t so eager.
Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen also met with Müller, perhaps to talk about a potential front office role. Bayern is a club that has many former players in the business side of things. It is a long tradition that has strongly influenced the style and success of the club. It is no doubt that Müller would be a prime candidate for a role off the pitch.
Now, though, things might have taken a turn for the worse per Sport Bild’s Christian Falk, who is reporting that Müller will not get a new deal for next season:
