Bayern Munich has a big summer ahead…
Bayern expecting Spurs to trigger release clause (Bild via ESPN)
Bayern Munich’s loan of Mathys Tel to Tottenham Hotspur has always felt like it has the potential to become permanent — and as it turns out, that is exactly what the Bavarians are banking on per Bild:
Bayern Munich are expecting that Tottenham Hotspur trigger the €60m clause to make Mathys Tel’s loan permanent so they can sign a striker in the summer transfer window.
Tel’s fall from grace in Bavaria will always puzzle fans. Just a year ago, Tel looked like a building block for the future, but the Frenchman was unable to get a footing under Vincent Kompany and never really settled into a position.
Not a wing, but maybe not a striker who can function alone, Tel’s future became muddled this season. The loan move to Tottenham at least represented hope for both Tel and Bayern Munich, but the youngster has not exactly lit the world afire since joining Spurs with just one goal in seven appearances across all competitions.
Still, Tottenham Hotspur is said to be high on Tel, which could lead them triggering the purchase option on the attacker. That seems to be something that Bayern Munich would welcome at this point.
Gyökeres to United? (ESPN)
Manchester United might be going all-out to reunite Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyökeres with his old coach, Ruben Amorim:
Manchester United are frontrunners in the race to sign Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyökeres despite facing competition from Arsenal and Liverpool. This comes despite the Red Devils being unlikely to offer European football next term, as the 26-year-old has a close relationship with head coach Ruben Amorim following their time together at Sporting.
Gyökeres has been linked to Bayern Munich as well.

Juve wants to sell Vlahović (ESPN)
One name to keep an eye on at striker for Bayern Munich is Dušan Vlahović.
Juventus will be looking to unload Vlahović this summer and if the price drops low enough, the Bavarians could be inclined to take a gamble on an attacker that is a known commodity for scoring (though his finishing has left something to be desired this season).
This is where 25-year-old Serbia international stands:
Juventus want interim head coach Igor Tudor to showcase Dusan Vlahovic to help them offload the striker in the summer, reports Calciomercato, with Manchester United and Arsenal among those interested in the 25-year-old. After a managerial change, sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli’s position has also weakened, but he will look to make Randal Kolo Muani’s loan from Paris Saint-Germain permanent and sign Victor Osimhen from Napoli if he stays. Gazzetta dello Sport also says that the Bianconeri are keen on Osimhen, who continues to impress on loan Galatasaray.

Huijsen drawing interest from Barca, too (ESPN)
Rumored Bayern Munich target Dean Huijsen is rumored to be heading to Real Madrid, but FC Barcelona is also interested:
Real Madrid and Barcelona are both interested in AFC Bournemouth centre-back Dean Huijsen, says Diario Sport, although the Spanish outlet adds that the 19-year-old isn’t a priority for the Blaugrana. This comes after Huijsen came through testing circumstances to help Spain beat Netherlands on penalties in the UEFA Nations League on Sunday, having turned down the Dutch to represent La Roja.
LFC eyeing Bastoni (Football Insider ESPN)
Liverpool FC has its eyes on Inter Milan center-back Alessandro Bastoni:
Liverpool will have to spend over £60m to sign Internazionale centre-back Alessandro Bastoni and consider the Italy international as Virgil van Dijk’s long-term successor, although Inter are reluctant to see him depart.
Bavarian Podcast Works — Emergency Edition: Bayern Munich loses Alphonso Davies for the season, Dayot Upamecano for “several weeks” (Bavarian Football Works)
The hits keep on coming for Bayern Munich.
The international break was not kind to the Bavarians as Manuel Neuer suffered a setback with his calf issue. Little did we know that injury would be the least of our concerns. Alphonso Davies tore the cruciate ligament in his right knee and will miss the rest of the season, while Dayot Upamecano has “loose bodies” in his knee and will miss up to six weeks per Bild.
Obviously, this is not ideal, so let’s discuss:
- How the news broke and why did Bayern Munich downplay Davies’ injury?
- Upamecano’s injury seemed to come out of nowhere.
- What might have caused this? The schedule? The conditions? Wear-and-tear?
- Where does Bayern Munich go from here and how it can cover the loss of two key players like Upamecano and Davies.

Hoeneß reveals best move at Bayern (kicker via @iMiaSanMia)
Bayern Munich legend Uli Hoeneß recently talked about what he felt like was the best decision he made during his time with the club.
“[Building] the Allianz Arena. The Olympiastadion was OK, but with a view to developments in society, we had to do something. In the past, people would have to sit straight in the snow at minus 10 degrees, so they thought twice about going [to games],” Hoeneß said. “Today we are always sold out, in the Olympiastadion we had an average attendance of 35,000 in the heyday. That has now more than doubled, even though it has become more expensive. But it’s more comfortable, you don’t freeze as much. I fought like a lion for this stadium, it has brought us further.
“The big clubs all have a stadium, everyone knows these big names: Bernabéu, Camp Nou, Old Trafford, Anfield Road. The Allianz Arena has long been one of them.”
