The Gunners have been without a permanent man in that role since Edu Gaspar resigned and left the club back in November.

Jason Ayto took interim charge, and he was in contention for the full-time role. But, Arsenal have gone in a different direction.

Berta is the chosen one, and there’s now some good news for Arsenal fans.

When Arsenal are going to announce Andrea Berta as their new sporting director

Arsenal took their time to find their sporting director.

Edu left big shoes to fill at the Emirates, and the decision-makers at the club explored several options to replace him.

TBR Football exclusively revealed earlier in March that Berta had rejected AC Milan because he had decided that he wanted Arsenal.

That process has been going on for several weeks now, and the time for an official announcement is finally here.

Gianluca Di Marzio has revealed on X that Arsenal will unveil Berta as their new sporting director in the coming hours today – Friday, March 28, 2025.

“Andrea Berta is joining Arsenal: in the next hours, the official announcement,” Di Marzio tweeted Friday morning.

Andrea Berta’s first task as Arsenal’s new sporting director

Berta has a lot of work to do at Arsenal.

The Gunners need reinforcements in multiple areas of their pitch, while quite a few players will have to be moved on too at the end of the season.

The priority for Berta in the summer will be to find a new striker, and Arsenal fans will be hoping that he can use his experience and connections to sign a prolific forward.

But, the Italian’s first task will have to be contract renewals.

Berta will have to extend the contracts of Bukayo Saka, William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes before they enter the final two years of their deals this summer.
