Chelsea and Manchester City are likely to be on the lookout for a new goalkeeper in the summer transfer window.

Chelsea have had their fair share of issues in between the sticks, with neither Robert Sanchez nor Filip Jorgensen having done tremendously well.

Indeed, Paul Robinson recently suggested Chelsea should sell Sanchez and Jorgensen, saying they weren’t good enough for the Blues.

Likewise, Manchester City haven’t had much luck in goal, with Ederson having been below par this season and Stefan Ortega not doing amazing either.

Ederson could have left Man City for Saudi Arabia over the summer, and faces an uncertain future beyond the current campaign at the Etihad Stadium.

Now, Chelsea and City are said to be in pursuit of a 25-year-old goalkeeper who Jose Mourinho once called “amazing” and a “superhero”.

Chelsea and Manchester City keen on Roma goalkeeper Mile Svilar

Chelsea and City have set their sights on Roma goalkeeper Mile Svilar, according to a transfer report from CaughtOffside.

Svilar, a Serbia international, has been in fine form for his club, but contract talks with the Giallorossi are said to be at an impasse.

The report claims Svilar is not happy with Roma’s contract offer and is stalling over penning a new deal amid interest from the Premier League.

In addition to Chelsea and City, Premier League rivals Newcastle United are also said to be keen on the 6ft 2in stopper.

Svilar’s price tag is reported to be €35million (£29million) if Roma decide to sell rather than continue with contract talks.

What Mile Svilar could bring to the Premier League

Svilar is a modern goalkeeper whose strongest trait is his shot-stopping, thanks to his great reflexes, and is also confident with the ball at his feet.

He has been in great form for Roma this season, keeping 11 clean sheets in Serie A and three in the Europa League.

Svilar has conceded just 46 goals from 42 games this season, while his overall Roma tally reads 76 matches played, 25 clean sheets and 85 goals shipped.

Svilar previously held the record for the youngest goalkeeper to have played in the Champions League.

He started for Benfica against Manchester United on 18 October 2017, aged just 18 days and 52 years old.

The Red Devils only won 1-0, and Jose Mourinho was full of praise for the keeper, who beat a record previously held by Iker Casillas.

“To me he seems really talented,” Mourinho said of Svilar after the game, as per the official Roma website.

“This kid is amazing, he’s a talent, he’s a superhero. Respect to Benfica for playing him straight away, at 18.”
