For the third straight season, Arsenal look like they’re going to fall just short in the Premier League title race.

Indeed, the Gunners are set for a third-consecutive second-place finish, and if they want to go one step further next season, they need to have a strong transfer window.

There are no prizes for guessing which position Arsenal will be prioritising this summer.

Arsenal need a new striker, and a number of options have been linked with a move to the Emirates.

Ollie Watkins is on Arsenal’s radar, while Benjamin Sesko has been linked to Arsenal too.

However, Alexander Isak is Mikel Arteta’s dream target.

Speaking on ESPN, Steve Nicol has been discussing the links between Isak and Arsenal, and he says that the Gunners will be favourites to win the Premier League next season if they sign the Newcastle star.

Alexander Isak would make Arsenal Premier League title favourites

Nicol spoke about the links between Isak and Arsenal.

The Liverpool legend says that Isak is one of the best strikers in Europe, claiming that Arsenal would be favourites to win the league if they signed the Newcastle ace.

“He’s that good, he’s absolutely one of the best in Europe and if you have any ambition or the highest ambitions to win the Champions League, you have to sign him,” Nicol said.

“As far as Arsenal are concerned, he would absolutely make the difference. The amount of games they have drawn or ended up losing because they are short of goals from their centre-forward. That is the difference someone like Isak would make. He would absolutely put Arsenal up there are favourites to win the Premier League next season if they signed him.”

Arsenal’s striking options in previous title-winning seasons

Arsenal have come so close to winning the Premier League in recent years, and the missing piece of the puzzle for the Gunners could well be a striker like Isak.

Indeed, Arsenal have won three Premier League titles, and in each of those seasons, they had multiple prolific strikers who were able to come up with the goods on a weekly basis.

Arsenal’s Premier League winning seasons Striking options
1997/98 Dennis Bergkamp, Nicolas Anelka, Ian Wright
2001/02 Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp, Nwankwo Kanu
2003/04 Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp, Jose Antonio Reyes, Nwankwo Kanu

Arsenal don’t currently have that 20 goal a season striker. In fact, they don’t even have a 15 goal a season striker.

That type of prolific forward can be the difference between lifting the Premier League and being the runner-up, and Isak is the type of player who can fire Arsenal to that next level.
