Chelsea have been forced to come up with a new plan for Jadon Sancho after learning the cost of voiding their option to buy him from Manchester United.
The winger arrived on a season loan move from United, with an option to buy him for ₤28 million. But after a season in which he has scored just two goals, and become an increasingly peripheral figure in games, they have had a change of mind, and their preferred option is to send him back to Old Trafford.
United have indicated, though, that they are prepared to play hardball and are demanding a minimm of ₤5 million to take back a player they never wanted in the first place.
Instead, Chelsea are now considering exercising their option to buy, and then immediately looking to sell Sancho, whose career seems to have gone off the rails badly.
Sancho, himself, has indicated that he is interested in moving back to Borussia Dortmund for his third spell at the German club, which is where he played his best football.
