Liverpool has a fairly lengthy list of things that need to be resolved this summer.
If Trent Alexander-Arnold leaves, he will need replacing. And then there are the contract situations of both Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk. In addition to sorting out what happens with that trio, Liverpool could also do with bringing in a new number nine and a left-back. Given how much Ryan Gravenberch has been relied on, another number six of a similar mold might be a good idea as well.
Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds. Bayern Munich crops up twice in the latest round-up with the Bundesliga leader said to be eyeing an Anfield swoop.
Cody Gakpo (Liverpool)
According to Fichajes, Dutch forward Cody Gakpo is high on the agenda for Bayern Munich heading into the summer. Indeed, the Spanish outlet goes as far as claiming that an offer of $97 million (£75 million) is being prepared for the winger’s services.
Gakpo is said to be a “priority” for the German giant. He has scored 39 times for Liverpool since arriving from PSV in 2023 and has become a regular in the first-choice starting XI under Arne Slot.
Liverpool considered signing Anthony Gordon to play on the left flank last summer but Newcastle United ended up selling other players instead in the end, avoiding the need to cash in for PSR purposes. Gakpo has since elevated his game to another level.
Liverpool.com says: Given there has been speculation about Luis Diaz again and Darwin Nunez could well depart, it could be quite the summer of change in attack. Gakpo, though, arguably feels the likeliest player to stay put.
Harry Kane (Bayern Munich)
Unsurprisingly, Bayern Munich forward Harry Kane has swiftly moved to distance himself from an exit heading into the summer. He was linked with an extremely unlikely move to Liverpool earlier this week in a classic international break rumor.
A few weeks ago, Kane was asked about the speculation that his contract contains an $87 million (£67 million) release clause for him to make a return to the Premier League at some point, where he could continue chasing Alan Shearer’s goals record. “What I can say is that I’m very happy at FC Bayern,” he said last month. “No comment on the clause.”
The Daily Mirror reports that Kane appears in “no rush” to leave the Bundesliga. He is still learning German as he gets used to playing in the country and has been in good form again this season, where he is closing in on winning the first trophy of his career.
Liverpool.com says: There might be a case for signing Kane if Mohamed Salah leaves given there would be guaranteed goals coming in, which would be a requirement in that instance. His age and salary, though, make it highly improbable. it just isn’t a ‘Liverpool’ move.
