Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez in the summer transfer window.

The Uruguayan has struggled to find consistent form ever since he completed a move from Benfica in the summer of 2022.

Nunez has also had to settle for a bench role for large periods of the current campaign, having started just 17 of his 40 competitive appearances this season.

The forward has still contributed with seven goals and seven assists, including two goal contributions in Liverpool’s most recent Premier League game against Southampton.

However, those sort of displays have proved to be too few and far between, and it appears that the Reds are open to parting ways with the 25-year-old in the summer transfer window.

Atletico Madrid have been linked with a potential move, although Atleti’s CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin has suggested that such speculation are just “baseless” rumours.

According to TEAMtalk, the Uruguay international could be given the chance to remain in England by at least two Premier League clubs.

The report claims that Forest and Newcastle are both showing an interest in Nunez ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Tricky Trees are said to be keeping a close eye on Nunez’s situation at Anfield as they weigh up whether to step up their interest ahead of the 2025-26 season.

Why are Forest, Newcastle looking to sign a new striker?

Chris Wood has been in fine form for Forest this season, having racked up 18 goals in 29 competitive appearances this season.

While Wood may be the current first-choice striker, Forest are still keen to strengthen in the final third, especially as they could be playing in the Champions League next season.

The Tricky Trees have also been linked with Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, highlighting the calibre of player they are looking to sign in the summer.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are keeping tabs on the Liverpool forward as they look to put in contingency plans in case Alexander Isak leaves this summer.

However, the Magpies are determined to keep hold of the striker’s services and have reportedly set a £150m asking price in a bid to ward off his potential suitors.
