Arsenal are likely to be busy in the summer transfer window in order to strengthen their ranks and mount a major challenge for the top honours next season.
The Gunners have long been linked with a new striker, even before the injury crisis that left them with a depleted front line.
Arsenal have been heavily linked with Benjamin Sesko over the past few transfer windows, and it is said to be a deal with a good chance of happening.
Transfer insider Ben Jacobs recently said Sesko to Arsenal is a “very likely deal to happen” as he won’t be as expensive as Alexander Isak.
Now, Arsenal may have just received a boost in their pursuit of Sesko from an unlikely source – Tottenham legend Harry Kane.
Arsenal target Benjamin Sesko not keen on Bayern Munich while Harry Kane is there
Sesko is one of the most highly sought after strikers in world football thanks to his heroics for RB Leipzig.
German outlet BILD has reported that Arsenal, Manchester United and Juventus are keen on Sesko, as are Bayern Munich.
However, Sesko is said to be against the idea of joining Bayern while Kane is there, as he doesn’t fancy the idea of playing second fiddle to the England star.
If Sesko does move, he wants to be the main man, so Bayern would have to change their one-striker system, or Kane would have to leave in the summer.
With Arsenal currently not having a No. 9 in their ranks, the chances of Sesko becoming the main man at the Emirates Stadium are high.
What Sesko could bring to Arsenal
Sesko is in great form for Leipzig this season, with 14 goals and three assists from all appearances, including four in the Champions League.
His overall tally for the club reads 79 appearances, 29 goals and 11 assists, and he also has 16 goals from 41 Slovenia caps.
Competition | Appearances | Goals | Assists | Minutes |
Bundesliga | 25 | 10 | 5 | 1.885′ |
Champions League | 8 | 4 | – | 521′ |
DFB-Pokal | 3 | 3 | 1 | 249′ |
Total | 36 | 17 | 6 | 2.655′ |
In terms of player comparisons, Sesko has been likened to Erling Haaland, a comparison that the Slovenia international has very much welcomed.
Described as “world class” by analyst Ben Mattinson, Sesko is said to have a £60million release clause, so he’d be a lot less expensive than Isak, who’d likely be valued above £150million.
Arsenal have also been linked with Lorenzo Lucca, who has been shining for Serie A side Udinese and is also part of the Italy setup.
The Gunners seem to be in the market for a tall target man, which would give them a focal point in attack and would certainly go a long way to giving them more options and therefore more wins.
