In a key battle at the top end of the League One table, Charlton Athletic will welcome Huddersfield Town to The Valley on Saturday.

The hosts currently occupy fourth spot, five points ahead of their sixth-placed visitors who lead the chasing pack in the playoff race by a single point.

We say: Charlton Athletic 1-1 Huddersfield Town

With renewed confidence from a statement win last time out under the temporary guidance of Jon Worthington, we back Huddersfield Town to gain a creditable point in a tough trip to The Valley, with both sides boasting an abundance of quality.

Stockport County host struggling Burton Albion in League One this weekend as the Hatters edge closer to securing a playoff berth this season.

The hosts are currently fifth in the table, with a five-point cushion on Bolton Wanderers in seventh, as the league season nears its conclusion.

We say: Stockport County 2-0 Burton Albion

Although Burton have improved in recent weeks, it is difficult to pick against Stockport here.

County should have more than enough firepower to see off the visitors in this match, and it should be a relatively comfortable afternoon for the hosts as they continue their push for promotion to the Championship.

Looking to tighten their grip on the third-tier title, Birmingham City will welcome League Two-bound Shrewsbury Town to St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park on Saturday afternoon in League One.

Blues will be desperate to put their visitors to the sword after a humbling afternoon at the Croud Meadow in November, whilst the Shrews are set to be under the stewardship of a third different manager in the space of five months.

We say: Birmingham City 2-0 Shrewsbury Town

None of Birmingham’s third-tier foes have been able to earn victory at St Andrew’s yet, and it is hard to imagine a crisis-stricken Shrewsbury bucking that trend on Saturday afternoon.

Even without Stansfield, Blues should be too strong for the Shrews, with the hosts looking to put the game to bed as quickly as possible ahead of a hectic April schedule.

Bolton Wanderers travel to Bloomfield Road this weekend to take on Blackpool in a Lancashire derby in League One.

Heading into the weekend, the visitors are only one point outside of the playoff zone in the standings, while the Seasiders have playoff aspirations of their own, as they are seven points off the playoff positions with eight games remaining.

We say: Blackpool 2-2 Bolton Wanderers

Blackpool are capable of scoring goals against any opponent, but they have drawn more matches than any other team in the division this season.

Keeping clean sheets have proven difficult for Bolton under Schumacher, so we see a high-scoring draw as the most likely outcome in this match.

Bristol Rovers play host to Mansfield Town on Saturday afternoon looking for the win that will edge them closer to survival in the third tier of English football.

At a time when the home side sit in 20th position in the League One table, Mansfield are just two points ahead of them in 17th place.

We say: Bristol Rovers 2-1 Mansfield Town

While getting back to winning ways last time out was invaluable to Mansfield, it remains to be seen whether they can back it up. Bristol Rovers may have lost their last two fixtures, yet we are backing the Pirates to deliver at their home ground under Calderon yet again.

Cambridge United play host to Northampton Town on Saturday afternoon knowing that only a win will do as they bid to avoid relegation.

At a time when the home side sit 12 points adrift of safety in the League One table, Northampton are 19th and looking to pull further clear of the drop zone.

We say: Cambridge United 1-1 Northampton Town

There will be an interesting dynamic to this contest, Cambridge needing to throw caution to the wind to give themselves any chance of staying up. However, we feel that a more conservative approach from the visitors will lead to a low-scoring share of the spoils.

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson thanks fans after his side's match against Burton Albion, on December 7, 2024© Imago

As they fight for automatic promotion in League One, Wrexham will travel to take on Exeter City at St James Park on Saturday.

The Grecians will be looking to extend their unbeaten run to seven games this weekend, while the Red Dragons will be aiming to make it three league wins on the bounce for the first time this year.

We say: Exeter City 1-1 Wrexham

Both of these teams have been in excellent form defensively, so expect a low-scoring game regardless of the result.

Additionally, Wrexham may have a strong away record, but they have been struggling offensively in recent weeks and are unlikely to win against a stubborn Exeter side on Saturday.

Pushing for a playoff spot in League One, Reading will face off against in-form Peterborough United at the Select Car Leasing Stadium on Saturday.

The Royals are unbeaten since January as they search for promotion to the Championship, while the Posh have also avoided defeat for over a month ahead of this weekend’s clash.

We say: Reading 1-2 Peterborough United

With both sides looking to maintain lengthy unbeaten runs this weekend, expect a low-scoring game.

However, Peterborough have been stronger in recent weeks and have recorded impressive victories over the likes of Charlton despite the disparity in league position, and their superior offensive output could earn them a third win on the bounce on Saturday.

Aiming to give their slim hopes of escaping the League One relegation zone a major boost, Crawley Town will travel to the New York Stadium to take on Rotherham United on Saturday.

A victory last time out saw the visitors narrow their gap to safety to nine points with eight league games remaining.

We say: Rotherham United 1-1 Crawley Town

While the hosts certainly boast more quality than the visitors, they have failed to make that count so far this season, while Crawley Town head to the New York Stadium with fresh optimism back under the management of Scott Lindsey.

We see them leaving South Yorkshire with at least a point at the weekend, albeit with only a victory sufficing in their bid to move closer to safety.

Aiming to pick up their first points under the management of Ryan Lowe, Wigan Athletic will welcome Barnsley to the DW Stadium on Saturday.

The hosts sit 18th in the League One table after a defeat in their first game under the new boss, while their visitors have dropped to 11th spot under the temporary stewardship of Conor Hourihane.

We say: Wigan Athletic 2-1 Barnsley

With the visitors devoid of confidence given their injuries and fall out of the playoff picture, we back Ryan Lowe to oversee a victory in his first home game as Wigan Athletic manager.

As they fight for automatic promotion in League One, Wycombe Wanderers are set to host Lincoln City at Adams Park on Saturday.

The Chairboys will be looking to build on their win last time out, while the Imps will be aiming to make it three in a row without defeat for the first time since December.

We say: Wycombe Wanderers 2-1 Lincoln City

Wycombe will be desperate to keep up with Wrexham in the race for promotion, so expect them to deliver a strong performance as they sense an opportunity to put points on the board.

Also, Lincoln may have earned consecutive clean sheets ahead of this weekend, but they have struggled on the road, and it is difficult to picture them avoiding defeat on Saturday.
