Alexander Isak may have just given Newcastle fans more hope that he’ll be staying put at St James’ Park as he continues to be linked with a move to Liverpool.
The striker was at the heart of the Magpies’ celebrations on Saturday as they paraded the Carabao Cup around the city, following their win over the Reds at Wembley. Isak of course played a big part in the club’s first major trophy for 70 years, scoring what turned out to be the winner in their 2-1 victory.
But while Newcastle fans and players alike were clearly reveling in their triumph, there continues to be some uncertainty over what the future holds for Isak.
The Swedish international has been linked with a move away from the north-east amid a superb season, with only Mohamed Salah and Erling Haaland ahead of him in the Premier League’s top scorers. Liverpool has been touted as a possible destination, with Arne Slot almost certainly looking for upgrades on his current options up front.
With Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz struggling for form recently, and Salah’s future still up in the air as his contract ticks down, Isak would appear to be the ideal signing for the Reds this summer. What’s more, the striker has recently denied suggestions that he’s been in talks over a new deal at Newcastle, raising hopes among Liverpool fans that he might be eyeing up a move away.
There was little sign of him angling for an exit on Saturday though, with Isak posting a message to Newcastle fans following the parade. “What a memorable day! Love you all!” he wrote on Instagram, along with a couple of black and white heart emojis.

Isak also spoke to the crowd on stage during the parade, offering up more encouragement to Newcastle fans that he is happy where he is.
“It’s impossible to describe this feeling,” he said. “I scored a goal a minute earlier which was offside. My goal was probably the biggest of my career. Obviously, with it getting us the win in the end. It felt amazing.
“The support means the world to us. But it means more to see how much this means to the people. We’re so happy to give the city and the fans.”
Isak’s comments come as Newcastle has reportedly taken a firm stance on a potential transfer this summer. According to The Athletic, the Magpies are “adamant” the 25-year-old will not be on the move, having made it clear that he is not for sale.
