Intermediaries have been talking to Spanish giants Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid about Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez, TBR Football can reveal.
Fernandez moved to Chelsea back in January 2023 when Todd Boehly’s side parted with £105m to secure the midfielder from Benfica.
The 24-year-old has since made 97 appearances for the club and Enzo Maresca has experimented with the Argentinian’s position since his own arrival.
Predominantly considered as a number six or eight, Maresca has tried Fernandez as a number 10 when Cole Palmer hasn’t been available, a position that does somewhat suit his skill-set.
But despite settling well into life in west London, sources now claim that the Argentina international would be keen on a move to Spain.

That being said, TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey understands that Chelsea have no plans to part ways with Fernandez and have not had any discussions about a possible summer move.
TBR is informed that intermediaries have been holding talks in the background, claiming that a deal is possible – but Chelsea sources would disagree.

FA documents previously revealed that Fernandez has a contract with Chelsea until 2032, putting the club in a strong position when it comes to the midfielder’s future.
But in terms of a potential departure from the club, intermediaries realise that a move to Atletico is more likely – hence why those links are being pushed.
A move to Atletico’s Madrid rivals might be more appealing to Fernandez at this point, but either way Chelsea currently have no plans to sell.
Neither Real Madrid or Atletico are making a move at this point – good news from a Chelsea point of view.

Of course, it is therefore interesting to revisit some comments Fernandez made to Sky Sports at the tail end of last year about life under Maresca and his aims to win trophies at Chelsea.
John Terry called Fernandez ‘superb’ recently, and the Argentinian seemed to suggest that he wanted to follow in the legendary Chelsea defender’s footsteps.

Fernandes said: “There is still a lot left to do. We just go weekend to weekend. I don’t want to set a target that maybe isn’t necessary right now.
“But of course, as a player, I have always dreamed of doing great things. Winning the Premier League would be a dream for us all.
“For myself and the club, the goal is to win every competition we play in. That is the history of Chelsea. The club’s history represents that.”
An ambitious individual, and one who Chelsea understandably want to keep around.
