The Eagles raced into a 2-0 lead after just 38 minutes to end any hopes the Cottagers had of playing in the final four at Wembley, as goals by Eberechi Eze and Ismaila Sarr swiftly killed the game.

Eddie Nketiah put the icing on the cake with a cool finish in the 75th minute.

Marco Silva told reporters he was unhappy to see Adam Wharton stay on the pitch – feeling the England international should have received a second yellow card – but still found time to praise Crystal Palace.

The 47-year-old told BBC Sport: “(It was) one game until 25 minutes of the match, we completely dominated and we had three or four dangerous moments around their goal. We should have scored in those moments. You need to be ruthless and clinical (because) they are solid and compact. They set nine players around their box every single time and when we are able to create, we have to score. We didn’t and we were not strong in both ends this afternoon.”

Silva – a target for Tottenham if Ange Postecoglou is sacked – watched his Fulham side register 70.8% possession and record 16 shots to Crystal Palace’s eight, although only three were on target compared to six from the south Londoners.

Crystal Palace – who want Finn Azaz – have received some cash from the FA (Football Association) after the quarter-final at Craven Cottage.

Oliver Glasner secured a sum of £450,000 for the Eagles after the 3-0 win on Saturday, and regardless of what happens at Wembley, a further £500,000 is to come, the fee handed to losers of the semi-final.
