Aston Villa lineup vs. Brighton & Hove Albion: Predicted XI for Premier League clash

2 Min Read

Unai Emery is expected to have a nearly fully-fit squad available to choose from for Aston Villa‘s upcoming Premier League clash with Brighton & Hove Albion.

Ross Barkley is likely to be the only absentee, as the midfielder remains on the treatment table due to a calf issue that has kept him out of the side since Aston Villa’s FA Cup victory over West Ham in January.

As for the likely starting 11 on Wednesday, while Marcus Rashford scored a brace against Preston North End – his first goals for the club – the forward is expected to shift back to the left wing to accommodate Ollie Watkins‘s return to the starting team.

Rashford has formed an excellent partnership with fellow January arrival Marco Asensio, with the Englishman providing assists for four of Asensio’s seven Aston Villa goals, and both are expected to start alongside Watkins and Morgan Rogers in an attacking quartet.

Moving back to the midfield, Emery may look to bring Amadou Onana into the starting 11 for the first time since returning from injury, and the Belgian could partner his national teammate Youri Tielemans in the middle of the park.

In defence, Lucas Digne produced another impressive performance as he provided two assists in Aston Villa’s 3-0 triumph over Preston North End in the FA Cup quarter-final, and the left-back should keep his place ahead of Ian Maatsen for this one.

Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa have re-established their partnership in the absence of Pau Torres, and while the Spaniard has returned, and Axel Disasi is also providing competition, a string of strong showings mean that the duo should start once again.

Aston Villa possible starting lineup:
Martinez; Cash, Konsa, Mings, Digne; Onana, Tielemans; Rogers, Asensio, Rashford; Watkins
