Bayern Munich cites “financial common sense” as grounds for not extending Thomas Müller

The silent warfare between Thomas Müller and the Bayern Munich board has now been made public.

Alongside the issues on pitch with inconsistent performances and onslaught of injuries, all has not been well with the Bayern Munich finances either. The club has been reportedly making a loss every financial year for decades now.

The latest report from Süddeutsche Zeitung (SZ) per @iMiaSanMia reveals that the revenue from this year’s Club World Cup alone will save Bayern fiscally. The club will apparently not be making any losses this year.

Most importantly, the report by SZ spoke about the Thomas Müller contract situation. It stated that ‘financial common sense’ was among the reasons the club did not offer Müller a new contract. They feel that the player despite being one of the top earners, is not needed from a sporting perspective and hence money can be saved by simply not extending him.

The report declares that this is most likely Müller’s last season at Bayern as his time here ends this summer. Apparently, both parties are now coming to a consensus about when to make the announcement, among other things. Additionally the club would like to offer a potential short-term extension for Müller to participate in the Club World Cup.

This marks the club’s first response to the Müller situation — as speculations and claims fly around about reported miscommunication between the parties and the Raumdeuter’s willingness to speak his mind regarding the same, as we saw on the documentary.
