Following Club León‘s disqualification from the Club World Cup, a major controversy erupted: who would take their place? Alajuelense made a request to obtain the spot vacated by the “Panzas Verdes”, although apparently, FIFA has decided to reject it and organize a match between Club América and LAFC. The winner would get the last ticket to the competition, which sparks several opinions.

However, it must be said that all this is press rumors. Therefore, to clarify the situation, the Mexican team spoke out and gave some clarity to the matter. Through an official statement, the “Águilas” (Eagles) expressed that they had not received any type of invitation to participate in the tournament and assured that if they did receive one, they would announce it immediately on their social networks and various media outlets.

They also took the opportunity to highlight that the team is 100% focused on Tuesday’s commitment against Cruz Azul, for the first leg of the quarterfinals of the 2025 CONCACAF Champions Cup.

Why Would FIFA consider Club América and LAFC to replace Club León in the Club World Cup?

Just as he confirmed the news of the possible crossing between North American clubs, the spokesman of the parent body of soccer also took the time to mention the reasons why they would have the necessary requirements to take the place of the “Panzas Verdes.”

His explanation left no room for interpretation: “LAFC would participate as runner-up to Club León in the 2023 CONCACAF Champions League through which Club León had qualified. Club América would participate as the first classified in the confederation classification of the FIFA Club World Cup through which the classification is also determined.”
