Tottenham announce clash with Arsenal in Hong Kong this summer

Tottenham Hotspur have announced that they will be playing Arsenal in a pre-season friendly this summer in Hong Kong.

The bitter rivals will travel to the Kai Tak Stadium to face off in the first North London derby being played outside of the UK.

Spurs have revealed that the fixture will take place on July 31, which will be just over two weeks before the 2025/26 Premier League starts on August 16.

Currently, it’s unclear who will be in charge of Tottenham by the time this game rolls around, given the heavy pressure that is on Ange Postecoglou.

Tottenham fans fume at North London ‘derby’ announcement

Tottenham’s supporters have been left fuming with the announcement that the club will be travelling to Hong Kong to face their rivals in a ‘friendly’ match.

The fans are unhappy at the thought of a North London derby taking place outside of the capital and being labelled as ‘friendly’.

There is also anger at the distance the squad could be made to travel in what is set to be a summer where the new manager will need time on the training pitch to work with his new players.

This is a disgrace and you know it. Pathetic.

One fan said: “What is ‘friendly’ about the rivalry between the two clubs? We detest them, and they allegedly feel the same way. I barely want to play this fixture twice a year, why would anyone want another?!”

Another claimed: “Word it how you want to but it’s not a proper derby, it’s a friendly abroad. You won’t have the fans there that make it a derby/occasion.”

A game called the “north London derby” being played somewhere that isn’t London don’t care that it’s only a friendly just doesn’t sit right with me https://t.co/prTAUaiZkb

There was yet more anger towards the announcement: “I trust that whoever your manager is next season won’t be moaning about player fatigue come November. It’s all about the money.”

“I don’t want to hear a manager next season talking about tiredness when we trek halfway around the world for pointless friendlies we could be playing in England,” stated another supporter.

Dear me, everyday football at the top level just gets a little bit more toxic and ruined. Playing your rivals in a “Friendly” is absolutely embarrassing. https://t.co/2sDvjcVIwD
