Young To Start? | Predicted 4-2-3-1 Everton Lineup To Face Liverpool

After a couple of seasons fighting the relegation scare, Everton are finally enjoying a breath of fresh air following David Moyes’ return as the Toffees’ boss. They have shown incredible spirit to script several late comebacks, as the Scotsman has not lost a league game since Aston Villa spoiled his homecoming in mid-January.

A dramatic last-gasp equalizer from skipper James Tarkowski saw them snatch a 2-2 draw in the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park, and it is to be seen whether Moyes’ men frustrate Liverpool once again on Wednesday night.

The Reds endured a tough week before the international break as their back-to-back defeats against Paris St-Germain and Newcastle United led to an elimination from the Champions League and a setback en route to successive EFL Cup glory. However, they remain firm favourites to conquer the Premier League crown, and the gaffer, Arne Slot, would bank on the Anfield crowd in the final stretch to secure the silverware at the earliest.

Defence

Clean sheets against Latvia and Albania while on England duties must boost Jordan Pickford’s confidence before travelling across Stanley Park. The custodian, who does not have fond memories of Anfield, is expected to be busy between the sticks against the lethal Liverpool attack.

Jake O’Brien is enjoying an incredible form as he scored late equalizers against Brentford and West Ham to salvage results. The Irishman should keep his place on the right ahead of Seamus Coleman and Nathan Patterson. Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite form a strong and resolute central defensive pairing; however, Vitaly Mykolenko’s injury during Ukraine’s defeat against Belgium is a massive blow for Everton. 39-year-old veteran Ashley Young could be deployed on the left against red-hot Mohamed Salah.

Midfield

James Garner has stepped in deep down the midfield amid Orel Mangala’s long injury layoff. His technicality and passing traits, alongside Idrissa Gana Gueye’s experience, would offer balance and stability as the ‘double pivot’.

Meanwhile, the fitness woes of Dwight McNeil and Iliman Ndiaye decimate the Toffees on the flanks. Despite his high work ethic, Jasper Lindstrom has only registered one assist all season. Yet the Napoli loanee might get the nod over Jack Harrison for being a more natural fit down the right. Carlos Alcaraz has impressed since his winter move and is expected to operate from the left once more. Abdoulaye Doucoure was incredible in the reverse fixture, and the Malian midfield ace must deliver another stupendous performance to frustrate the league leaders.

Attack

Beto has emerged as the preferred ‘number 9’ amid Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s injury absence. Youssef Chermiti and Armando Broja should continue as the understudies to the Bissau-Guinean marksman.
