Bernardo Silva, a six-time Premier League winner, has been given the unwanted title of the division’s slowest player this season.

New data from Opta has analysed the top speeds of the league’s stars across the campaign.

As a result, the fastest and slowest players have been discovered thanks to the brutal stats.

Across the Premier League, Opta reveals that City star Silva is the slowest outfield player across the English top flight.

The Portugal international has clocked a top speed of just 18.2mph across his 26 appearances in the competition.

Silva has still contributed two goals and four assists for the champions this term despite his lack of pace.

He joined City in the summer of 2016, lifting the Premier League trophy six times since, including an unprecedented fourth in a row last season.

His current contract still has over a year remaining as well, expiring less than two months before he turns 32.

Overall, Silva has 138 goal contributions across 395 total appearances for City.

The 30-year-old has also won 17 trophies including the treble two seasons ago.

However, those accolades have not prevented him coming in slower than Wolves defender Craig Dawson.

With a top speed of 18.3mph, Dawson comes in as the second slowest outfield player this term.

Premier League’s slowest players

  1. Bernardo Silva – 18.2mph
  2. Craig Dawson – 18.3mph
  3. Mikel Merino – 18.5mph
  4. Tomas Soucek – 18.8mph
  5. Casemiro – 18.8mph

Arsenal’s Mikel Merino, West Ham midfielder Tomas Soucek and Casemiro of Manchester United complete the top five.

Once goalkeepers are factored in, though, Fulham stopper Bernd Leno claims the mantle.

The German has a top speed of 14.7mph, which comes in below Opta’s threshold for sprinting.

It means Leno has yet to register a sprint across 29 league matches this season.

In contrast, David Raya is the league’s quickest goalkeeper at 20.3mph.

The Spaniard still comes in slower than Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven, however.

Van de Ven has been the fastest player so far this season with a top speed of 23.1mph.

His feat makes him the only player to have ran faster than 23mph across the entire league.

The next quickest player is Silva’s City teammate Matheus Nunes at 22.8mph.
