Mikel Merino opened the scoring for Arsenal in the 37th minute, firing into the far corner after being picked out by Ethan Nwaneri.

Then, Bukayo Saka scored on his return from a lengthy lay-off, heading into an empty net after Merino’s cross was flicked on by Gabriel Martinelli.

Arsenal’s victory over Fulham sees the Gunners cut the gap to league leaders Liverpool to nine points.

After the game, a number of Arsenal fans spoke about Martinelli, and they all made the same point about the Brazil international.

Martinelli best game in a very long time. I believe him playing on the right has helped him realize how to make hisself more impactful from the left.

Another said: “Martinelli has been superb tonight, perhaps his best game all season.”

Martinelli absolutely unplayable this evening, his best game this season by a country mile. So refreshing to have Saka back on tonight as well. Very happy Tuesday all 🔴⚪️

How Gabriel Martinelli fared for Arsenal against Fulham

Martinelli caused Fulham no end of problems, setting up an assist for the Saka goal which ended up proving crucial for Arsenal as the visitors scored late on.

Martinelli – who gave Timothy Castagne a hard time – thought he had scored a late goal of his own, but it was offside.

With Real Madrid coming up next week, it’s great to see the £6million man hit form at just the right time.

Interestingly, Arsenal are willing to sell Martinelli this summer, but with displays like this one, it’ll certainly be food for thought for Andrea Berta.

Arsenal are next in action on Saturday when they head to Everton in the day’s early Premier League kick-off.

The Gunners then host Real Madrid on Tuesday night in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie.
