Barcelona defender Jules Kounde has reportedly made a decision regarding his long-term future amid speculation linking him with Chelsea.
Earlier in his career, the France international rejected the advances of the Premier League outfit to move to Barcelona when departing Sevilla.
Now in his third campaign at the club, Kounde has proven to be a key player, making a total of 133 appearances in all competitions largely from right-back.
During that period, six goals and 18 assists have been contributed, emphasising his importance to the squad, yet reports have recently emerged that a scenario is on the horizon where offers could be invited.
With Kounde’s contract due to expire in 2027, it has been suggested that Barcelona will be prepared to cash in on his services should he not extend his terms at Camp Nou.

Kounde makes contract decision?
However, it appears that Barcelona officials have been provided with some clarity over the situation ahead of the closing two months of the campaign.
According to Marca, Kounde has given every indication that he wishes to extend his stay in Catalonia.
The report alleges that the 26-year-old has provided early encouragement in negotiations between the relevant parties and is eager to continue to represent the La Liga leaders.
Kounde is said to ‘feel important’ under head coach Hansi Flick with the versatile Frenchman yet to miss a game in any competition during 2024-25, making 45 appearances in total.
As such, it appears that a renewal is very much in the offing. It remains to be seen whether Kounde would be provided with a pay rise, or a contract more beneficial to Barcelona when they are continuing to manage their ongoing financial issues.

A second snub for Chelsea
When Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital became co-owners of Chelsea in 2022, it was soon apparent Kounde was high on their shortlist of potential additions.
With Reece James having been first choice at right-back at that time, Kounde had been earmarked for a central-defensive position, rather than the role that he has been deployed in at Barcelona.
Chelsea are now left to assess how they will strengthen in defence during the summer. The expectation is that funds will be raised through the sales of the likes of Trevoh Chalobah and Axel Disasi.
