Chelsea’s tough fight to find a new striker depends on rest of this season – opinion

Over the last few days it has become even more clear that no matter which striker Chelsea go for in the summer, they will face real competition for any of the names we have seen linked.

This is why Champions League football this season has become even more important. Although as I did report yesterday, the one player I know that it is not essential for at this point is Victor Osimhen. I’d probably put Liam Delap in that category too.

But for other top striker targets such as Vitkor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko, I’d probably say they will be ideally looking for a UCL club.

Arsenal are now focusing on Gyokeres, according to a host of reliable outlets over the weekend, and they are also now heavily linked with Sesko as well.

Arsenal, just like Chelsea, would love to sign Alexander Isak, but the quoted fee we keep hearing for him would be around £150m. So neither Chelsea or Arsenal will be dropping that on him.

This means Arsenal are now chasing names Chelsea are heavily linked with as well, which could present a real problem as they are getting Champions League football this summer, whereas Chelsea’s place is still on a knife-edge.

Manchester United have been reliably linked with Osimhen as well last week and I’ve even seen reports saying he is keen on going there as he just wants to play in the Premier League.

And I even heard that both Arsenal and United have also been tracking Delap. So whoever Chelsea go for, we have some tough work to do.

It would be smart to try and get a pre-deal done, but I do know that also not many names will agree that until they see if Chelsea get UCL football or not.

A lot of clubs are in for a big name striker this summer, so the competition is going to be rife, and Chelsea need UCL football to offer to help them in their quest.
