Liverpool may well be on the lookout for a new striker in the summer transfer window.
Indeed, Darwin Nunez is expected to leave Liverpool this summer, and the Reds could well be in the market for a new number nine.
Alexander Isak has been linked with Liverpool, and while that is a big-name signing, the Reds have now been linked with a more low-key option.
Indeed, according to Steve Kay, speaking on KS1TV, Liverpool have been offered Moussa Sylla from Schalke.
According to the journalist, Rafaela Pimenta, Erling Haaland’s agent, has been touting Sylla around, and Liverpool have been approached as a potential suitor.
Liverpool offered Moussa Sylla
Kay shared what he knows about the striker.
According to the journalist, Sylla has been offered to both Liverpool and Manchester United.
The forward has been shining for Schalke this season, and he’s considered to be way too good for the German second tier.
“Moussa Sylla from Schalke, do you know much about that one?” Kay was asked.
“Yeah, I was speaking to someone in Germany about that one, and they said that Rafaela Pimenta, who is his agent, the same agent as Erling Haaland. She’s pushing him around Europe, especially the Premier League, she’s spoken to Manchester United about him, she’s spoken to Liverpool about him
“He’s taken that league by storm, the Bundesliga 2. They think that at 25 he needs to make that big move now, which is why Pimenta is pushing him out now. Whether he goes to Man United or Liverpool, I don’t know, but yeah, it’s an interesting story for me because it’s someone I’ve never heard of.”
Players to come from Bundesliga 2
It would be easy for Liverpool fans to turn their noses up at a German second-tier player. After all, it’s not the best league in the world.
However, Sylla has scored 14 goals this season, and a number of top players over the years have come from teams in the German second-tier.
Indeed, when you look at some of the top transfers from the German second-tier over the years, there are some superstar names in the mix.
Top players to come from Bundesliga 2 | Team |
---|---|
Benjamin Pavard | Stuttgart |
Antonio Rudiger | Stuttgart |
Lukas Podolski | Koln |
Weston McKennie | Schalke |
Neven Subotic | Mainz |
Timo Werner | Stuttgart |
Of course, a lot of these players were leaving recently-relegated clubs and barely spent much time in the German second-tier, but, as Kay says, Sylla is a player who should never have been playing at this level in any case.
Liverpool have had a lot of joy shopping in Germany over the years – Roberto Firmino was incredible after signing from Hoffenheim, while Ibrahima Konate has been brilliant after signing from RB Leipzig, and who knows? Perhaps Sylla could be another bargain from Germany.
