Andrea Berta has officially begun his role as Arsenal’s sporting director.
The Italian left Atletico Madrid at the turn of the year and had been looking for a new role. TBR Football confirmed that AC Milan tried to land Berta, but he only wanted Arsenal.
The North Londoners confirmed his appointment on Sunday, and he has now started his plans to take the club to a whole new level.
All eyes will be on who Berta will sign for Arsenal this summer, but there are many players who will have to be moved on as well.
Darren Bent thinks he knows which player will be the first to go.
Darren Bent says Andrea Berta will sell Gabriel Jesus before any other Arsenal player
Gabriel Jesus will complete three years as an Arsenal player this summer.
The Brazilian joined the Gunners from Manchester City, and many fans at the Emirates Stadium felt they had found their superstar striker.
Jesus hit the ground running in the famous red and white and was one of the best players in the Premier League in the first few months of the 2022/23 season.
However, an injury he picked up during the World Cup in Qatar ruined everything for him, and he hasn’t been the same since.
That is why Bent believes Arsenal will get rid of Jesus once the summer transfer window opens.
He said on talkSPORT: “Gabriel Jesus. He’s got to go. Havertz stays. I think he will be the first to go, Gabriel Jesus.
“Because when I think of the left side, Trossard and Martinelli. Keep Trossard off the bench, but not as a starter; he plays too many minutes. You’ve got Trossard and Martinelli on the left.
“Centre-forward, you’ve got Havertz at the minute and Gabriel Jesus. Gabriel Jesus can go. On the right, you’ve got Saka and Nwaneri. It’s that centre-forward role, I think…”
Darren Bent is wrong – here’s why
Jesus’ future at Arsenal has been up in the air for quite some time now.
The Gunners would’ve likely sold him if they had received an offer last summer, but nothing materialised then. The same would’ve been the case in the upcoming window, but there is a problem.
Jesus suffered an ACL injury in January, and he is not expected to be back in action until the final few months of this year.
That means he will not be fit to start the 2025/26 season, so it is extremely unlikely that Berta will be able to find a buyer for Jesus, even if he wants to get rid of him.
We think Arsenal will be stuck with Jesus at least until January next year.
