Liverpool face Everton in the Merseyside Derby this week just a few weeks on from their last meeting.

Indeed, the first Merseyside Derby of the season was postponed due to Storm Darragh, and that means that we’ve had two in quick succession.

Just six weeks ago, Everton and Liverpool drew 2-2 at Goodison Park after James Tarkowski’s incredible late goal.

Everton vs Liverpool was a controversial game earlier this season with a post-game scuffle breaking out leading to red cards for Arne Slot, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Curtis Jones.

Now, the two sides are set to meet at Anfield, and writing in his column for the BBC, Chris Sutton has predicted how this game will go.

Chris Sutton predicts Liverpool vs Everton

Liverpool have had a tough few weeks with disappointing defeats to PSG and Newcastle United.

Liverpool received another blow last week as it was reported that Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to join Real Madrid.

However, despite these blows, Sutton believes that Liverpool will beat Everton this week, tipping a 2-0 win for the Reds.

“Liverpool have had a break since going out of the Champions League and losing the Carabao Cup final, and I don’t think we will see them wobble here. Quite the opposite in fact, now their focus is just on the Premier League,” Sutton wrote.

“The Reds also felt wronged by Everton’s late equaliser at Goodison Park in February so there will be all of that bubbling under, and Arne Slot’s side will feel they have a point to prove.

“They are going to put Everton under all sorts of pressure, but the Toffees will be well organised defensively and have an eye on a counter-attack too.

“Everton boss David Moyes has transformed a team that was lacking belief, and he would love nothing more than to go to Anfield and get something.

“I am expecting a typical derby, in that I would not be surprised if this is another emotional game as well as an explosive one, with maybe a couple of players losing their heads.

“There will be plenty of drama along the way, but I am pretty sure Liverpool will be back to their best form and end up taking the three points.”

Everton recent record at Anfield

Sutton thinks that Liverpool will beat Everton this week, and it’s easy to see why he’s tipped a win for Arne Slot’s side.

Indeed, not only are Liverpool top of the Premier League right now, the Reds have also been dominant over Everton at Anfield in recent years.

Everton did win at Anfield back in 2021 when no fans were present, but the Blues haven’t won at Anfield in front of fans since 1999 at this point.

David Moyes has done brilliantly since returning to Everton earlier this season, but getting a win at Anfield is a serious uphill task, especially as Liverpool have only lost one league game all season.

Of course, anything can happen in these derby games, but the form book does suggest that Liverpool are favourites heading into this match.
