Liverpool transfer news as Chelsea eyes Arne Slot ace and $43M move ‘increasingly likely’

3 Min Read

Liverpool is expected to be busy in the summer transfer market. With Arne Slot looking for more quality in his roster ahead of the new season, sporting director Richard Hughes has already begun work on potential arrivals.

Ideally, Liverpool would be able to bring in a new left-back, a holding midfielder to help out Ryan Gravenberch, and a world-class number nine. And that is before thinking about possibly having to replace any of the three first team players whose contracts are shortly set to expire.

Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today. The latest round-up contains news of one player coming in, but another potentially going out in what would not be a surprise exit.

Jeremie Frimpong (Bayer Leverkusen)

Liverpool is “increasingly likely” to sign Bayer Leverkusen full-back Jeremie Frimpong this summer as a replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold, according to the Daily Record. It notes that Scottish side Celtic would be due 30 per cent of the transfer fee as a result of a sell-on clause that was inserted when the player made the move to Germany back in 2021.

Frimpong has a release clause in his contract which is worth around $44 million (£34 million). It is expected that he will be on the move when the season ends; it was actually a surprise that he didn’t transfer elsewhere last summer but ended up staying put with the Bundesliga champion, managed by Xabi Alonso.

Liverpool.com says: Frimpong is not a perfect tactical fit for how Liverpool wants to play but he might be the best option on the market. It will change how the Reds attack but realistically, whoever comes in is going to be very different to Alexander-Arnold.

Caoimhin Kelleher (Liverpool)

Liverpool shot-stopper Caoimhin Kelleher has already made it clear that he wants to be the number-one choice somewhere. And the Reds have already signed up Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia as a replacement.

That means it makes perfect sense for the Irishman to move on this year if the right offer comes in. Chelsea, according to the Spanish outlet Fichajes, is plotting another “aggressive” summer, with Kelleher on the agenda.

Liverpool.com says: Kelleher has been at Anfield long enough to know where he stands. It would be a surprise to no one if he was to move on in the next few months. In fact, it would be a greater shock if he was still here in August when the new season begins.
