Arsenal are going to be in the market for a new striker this summer, and they’re almost spoilt for choice in terms of who they go for.

Indeed, it does feel as though there are a large number of striking options who Arsenal could go for.

Arsenal want Alexander Isak in an ideal world, while Ollie Watkins is on Arsenal’s radar too.

On top of that, Arsenal have been linked with Benjamin Sesko too.

However, in recent times, Viktor Gyokeres has been strongly linked to Arsenal.

Speaking on TalkSPORT, Ally McCoist has been discussing Arsenal’s links to Gyokeres, and he’s offered up his view on which striker Arsenal should sign.

Arsenal should sign Victor Osimhen instead of Viktor Gyokeres

McCoist said that he’s not convinced by Gyokeres, claiming that he doesn’t think he’s the real deal.

McCoist noted that he thinks Victor Osimhen would be a better signing, claiming that he could be a brilliant signing for Arsenal if they got him back to his best.

“Are you convinced he’s the real deal? (Gyokeres)” McCoist was asked.

“No I’m not, but what I have to say to qualify that is that I’ve not seen enough of him. I’ve seen highlights of games, I know he scored a couple of penalties at the weekend,” McCoist said.

“I don’t watch him religiously, but when I have watched him, he’s been good.

“He was excellent against Man City, but there are probably one or two I’d take before him

“Isak, you won’t get him, but Osimhen is another one, he’s not reached the form he had 18 months ago where he was absolutely flying, but if you could get him hungry again, someone like that.

“I’m going to give you another one, Mateta,” Jeff Stelling said.

“He’s been brilliant. I’ve got to say, particularly since Glasner took over. He has 25 in 40, which is remarkable. He’s different to someone like Haaland who doesn’t lead the line as good as Isak or Mateta. I do take your point, the remarkable turnaround in Mateta’s fortunes since the new manager has come in has been fantastic,” McCoist said.

Victor Osimhen compared to Viktor Gyokeres

It’s often hard to compare Viktor Gyokeres to other top strikers. After all, he’s not playing in one of Europe’s top leagues.

Gyokeres is playing in Portugal right now, and it’s not necessarily fair to compare a player in Portugal to a player in Spain, Italy, Germany or even England.

However, one player who you can compare to Gyokeres is Osimhen.

The Turkish Super Lig and the Portuguese League are on a similar footing in terms of standards, and, this season, Gyokeres has been seriously outperforming Osimhen.

McCoist reckons that Arsenal should go for the £50m man over Gyokeres, but the numbers tell a different story.

Regardless of who Arsenal end up going for in the summer, it’s clear that a new number nine is needed if they finally want to win the Premier League next season.
