Mohamed Salah’s future at Liverpool continues to be a hot topic both on and off the pitch.

His current contract is set to expire at the end of this season, and he has been vocal about his disappointment with the lack of progress on a new deal. In a post-match interview following Liverpool’s 3-2 victory over Southampton, Salah told journalists that he felt “more out than in” at Liverpool. He also expressed his frustration at not receiving a formal offer for a new contract from the club.

The Liverpool ECHO had previously reported in September that Salah was keen to sign a new contract with Liverpool, but no such deal has been finalized yet. Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Salah has continued to perform exceptionally on the pitch, scoring 32 goals in 43 games and helping Liverpool edge closer to the Premier League title.

Some Liverpool fans feel that Salah doesn’t receive the recognition he deserves from the media. However, former Everton and Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has challenged this perception.

Participating in the Daily Mail’s ‘Winner Stays On’ game, Rooney chose Salah over Erling Haaland, Sergio Aguero, Karim Benzema and Raul, before eventually selecting Thierry Henry over the Egyptian forward.

Rooney has once again heaped praise on Salah, having hailed him as the best player in the world earlier this season. Rooney stated on Amazon Prime: “Mo Salah, in my opinion, is the best in the world right now. He doesn’t always come back and you can get away with that (at his level).”

Last year, Rooney also expressed his belief that Salah doesn’t receive the recognition he deserves. He told Premier League Productions: “He carries the ball up the pitch, he makes great runs in behind, he scores goals and he creates goals.

“That’s what he’s there to do. He’s the main threat. They’ve had No. 9s… Roberto Firmino, Darwin Nunez. But he’s the one that keeps scoring the goals.

“I don’t think he gets the credit he deserves. Look at Phil Foden in a similar role. He’s got another eight, nine or 10 years to get to the numbers Mohamed Salah is hitting. I’d like to see him get more credit.”
