Everton have had some fantastic strikers over the years.

Indeed, from Gary Lineker to Romelu Lukaku, the Toffees have always had a knack of having a brilliant number nine leading their line.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is a brilliant striker on his day, but, unfortunately, those days are few and far between.

Speaking to Goal, Ashley Young has been asked to name the best finisher he’s ever seen at Everton, and he gave an interesting answer.

Young has previously praised Beto at Everton, but he picked a striker who left Everton a long time ago when giving his answer here.

Indeed, according to the Everton full-back, Andy Johnson is the best finisher he’s ever seen at Goodison Park, ahead of the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Richarlison.

Young was asked to name the best finisher he’s seen play for the Toffees.

Young himself has played against some brilliant Everton strikers over the years, but according to the England international, Andy Johnson is the best finisher the Merseyside club have had in his lifetime.

Johnson would eventually leave Everton for Fulham for £10m.

“Who’s the best finisher you have ever seen at Everton?” Young was asked.

“Andy Johnson,” Young said.

Andy Johnson isn’t necessarily the first player you think of when you think about iconic Everton strikers.

Indeed, the former England international isn’t really spoken about all that much in an Everton context – remembered more for his time at Crystal Palace and Fulham.

However, as Young says, Johnson was a good finisher, and while his record for Everton isn’t exactly amazing, he was a serviceable frontman for the Blues.

Assists 8

Interestingly, Johnson wasn’t all that prolific when he played against Ashley Young either.

Indeed, these two faced off on no fewer than 12 occasions in their careers, and Johnson actually only scored in three of those games.

Johnson was a pure finisher, if he had a chance, he’d pick out a corner with ease, but he wasn’t necessarily the best in terms of creating chances for himself or beating defenders, hence why his goal tally for Everton wasn’t as impressive as his finishing ability perhaps suggests it should be.
