So close you can taste it.
Bayern Munich triumphed 2-0 over Bayer Leverkusen in a key Frauen-Bundesliga victory on Sunday that puts the Bavarians very close indeed to this year’s crown.
After suffering a Champions League setback following elimination in Lyon, the Bavarians were once again firing on all cylinders, controlling play and crafting chances by the bunches.
Bayern struck first but it would take until the second half despite some good opportunities earlier on. An excellent flowing move from Lea Schüller saw the ball work its way central to Pernille Harder, then left to Klara Bühl — who buried it to finish off the quick transition.
For Bayern’s second, precocious midfielder Alara Șehitler played Bühl through down the left flank, and the goal-scorer lofted back central for striker Lea Schüller to finish.
Leverkusen’s best chance came in the 24th minute but was well saved by Ena Mahmutovic, who was back in goal in rotation with Mala Grohs.
Bayer Leverkusen is no slouch. This season they are fourth in the Frauen-Bundesliga after this result and the Bavarians dominated them — at least, they did not let the visitors get into the match.
Four games remaining, six points above Eintracht Frankfurt and VfL Wolfsburg. A date with Frankfurt on the road is next on April 12th.
