Ange Postecoglou has just had his say on how he felt about Cristian Romero playing for Argentina over the international break.

Romero had only just returned from three months out injured, which left fans angry that his return coincided with the international break.

There was a sense Postecoglou should have told Romero not to travel away on international duty, but Spurs had no issue with him making the trip.

The Tottenham boss has now had his say on the 26-year-old travelling to South America to play two matches for his country and why it actually beneficial to the team.

Ange Postecoglou pleased Cristian Romero got game time for Argentina

Ange Postecoglou has revealed that it was ‘important’ Cristian Romero got much-needed game time under his belt for Argentina as he completed two sets of 90 minutes.

The defender featured in wins over both Uruguay and Brazil, with the Argentinian media being particularly impressed by Romero’s performance versus Brazil.

Romero made a bad mistake to gift Brazil a goal, however, he recovered well and helped Argentina to defeat their rivals 4-1.

He’s made just three appearances for the club this year, therefore, getting two lots of 90 minutes under his belt should help him get back up to speed for important matches.

Postecoglou told Inside Spurs: “Firstly, obviously no-one picked up anything, which is important, but also some guys got some game time which we felt was going to be important, guys like (Cristian) Romero, Destiny (Udogie), Mathys Tel, Wilson (Odobert) and all these guys who missed a lot of football recently all got some good game time.

“The ones who played all did relatively well, they’re all back and we’ve had a strong training group in the last couple of days.”

What is the latest with Cristian Romero’s Tottenham future?

Romero could be off to Ateltico Madrid in the summer with the Spanish club chasing the defender and Diego Simeone making him a priority transfer.

TBR Football revealed on Tuesday that Romero had told his camp that he wanted to move to Spain with Real Madrid also chasing him. Tottenham could listen to offers worth around £45 million for Romero after lowering their asking price.

Tottenham have placed Osumane Diomande very high on their list of replacements, meanwhile, Edmond Tapsoba is another target.
