‘He can play’: Denis Irwin says £16m Liverpool target is one of his favourite players to watch now

There are a dearth of quality full-backs in the Premier League at the moment.

Indeed, in recent years, full-back has become a rather fashionable position.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to get a move to Real Madrid after his incredible form this season, while Pedro Porro has received plenty of praise at Tottenham.

Denis Irwin certainly knows a thing or two about what it takes to be a top Premier League full-back, and speaking to Off The Ball, Irwin has been discussing some of the modern day crop of Premier League full-backs.

Irwin was asked who is his favourite full-back to watch these days, and he says that Milos Kerkez is a top player.

Of course, this comes after Kerkez was linked with Liverpool.

Denis Irwin hails Milos Kerkez

Irwin spoke highly of the £16m man.

The pundit named Kerkez as one of his favourite full-backs, while he also hailed Antonee Robinson from Fulham.

Robinson has also been linked with Liverpool in recent times too.

“Who is your favourite full-back these days to watch?” Irwin was asked.

“That’s a tough one, the fella at Bournemouth, he can play, Kerkez, I think there’s every chance he moves on this summer as well. The fella Robinson at Fulham, he’s more than capable as well. Yeah, he’s more than capable, these teams now are producing really good players and they can buy them and nurture them more than the big teams,” Irwin said.

What Denis Irwin said about Trent Alexander-Arnold

Irwin named Kerkez as one of his favourite modern-day full-backs, and, inevitably, Trent Alexander-Arnold also got a mention.

The Irishman spoke incredibly highly of the England international, despite the fact he has plenty of ill will towards Liverpool from his playing days.

“Listen Trent Alexander-Arnold. I’m obviously not a big Liverpool fan, but going forwards, he’s got a David Beckham-esque right foot to be fair to him. He’s more than capable of scoring free-kicks and being involved,” Irwin said.

Unfortunately for Liverpool, we may be heading into the final few weeks of Alexander-Arnold’s spell as a Liverpool player.

Indeed, Alexander-Arnold has been strongly linked to Real Madrid, and it sounds as though a move could be on the cards at the end of the season on a free transfer.

Liverpool may well end up signing Kerkez, but they will also have to bring in a new right-back if Alexander-Arnold does go.
