There’s usually no love lost between Manchester United and Liverpool, two of the biggest clubs not only in English football but in the world.

The Red Devils and the Reds have locked horns many times in high-stakes encounters over the decades, including plenty of title challenges.

However, when it comes to the players themselves, there’s no denying that game recognises game.

Manchester United icon Nani has now given his verdict on Liverpool star Mohamed Salah, with one iconic Premier League winger singing the praises of another.

Nani says Liverpool star Mohamed Salah is ‘incredible’

Nani, the latest guest on the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast, was asked by the Old Trafford defensive legend what he thought of Salah.

Nani described the Liverpool star as an “incredible” player who’s very hard-working, eager to get stuck in, and ruthlessly efficient.

“He’s an incredible player and he knows what he’s doing,” said Nani.

“You see, this is the type of player – when he goes inside of the field, he knows what his power is, and he always tries to use it.

“His speed, his way of finishing the opportunities close to the box, and that’s why you’re always there – to score a goal, or sometimes you can cannot score but he’s always there to assist the players.

“So he knows exactly what you said – assists and goals is his game, because you don’t see him creating to come down and make the team play and the possession.

“No he’s always there in this position to receive the ball and try to beat this opponent and go for goal, it’s always a chance when he starts running with the ball.”

The latest on Mohamed Salah contract situation

Salah’s contract expires at the end of the season are Liverpool are yet to tie him down to a new deal.

However, David Ornstein recently claimed that Liverpool have been optimistic about Salah’s contract situation for some time.

“I just know Liverpool have been optimistic for some time that they will reach an agreement,” he said.

“Because, ultimately, they want Salah to stay and there is a belief that he is happy and would like the same.

“Now, of course, the numbers will need to be right (on what we think is a proposed two-year extension) and clearly that has not been easy… but there has so far been nothing to indicate talks have stopped or are not moving in a positive direction.

“Furthermore, when you make checks on rumours/reports/suggestions that Salah might be set for a move to the Saudi Pro League or Paris Saint-Germain, for example, you tend to receive pretty immediate and firm denials.”

Salah is having probably his best season in a Liverpool shirt, with an output of 54 goal contributions – 32 goals and 22 assists – in just 43 matches in 2024-25.

Tying him down to a new contract, at least for one more season, is imperative for the Reds, and hopefully they will be able to get a deal over the line.
