Will he stay or will he go?
Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl knew the questions were coming at the pre-match press conference ahead of his club’s Bundesliga game vs. FC Augsburg.
Eberl said that he is aware of the barbs and criticism being lobbed his way over the controversy surrounding Thomas Müller, but also that it is going into the void as he is not paying attention to any of it.
“I actually don’t notice it [criticism] that much. My entire focus is on FC Bayern and our tasks. We make decisions together; it’s one club. I’m aware of it, but I try to do my job as well as I can, in the spirit of FC Bayern, which is above everything else,” said Eberl (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “The accusations come from outside; everyone has an opinion on everything. We do our work internally and try to discuss everything. Gratitude is always there. We’re only concerned with the conversations with the players. When there’s something to announce, we’ll announce it.”
“Thomas Müller is a special individual, a great player for FC Bayern. Neither Thomas, nor we have anything to announce. We will announce the decision once the talks are completed.”
That will not give Müller’s fans much assurance, but Eberl does at least seem to be consistent with his messaging during this crazy period.
