Who should get the nod?

Bayern Munich is short on left-backs…and the situation actually got worse on Wednesday.

Alphonso Davies and Hiroki Itō are out for the season, while Adam Aznou and Frans Krätzig are on loan. To really make matters worse, Raphaël Guerreiro missed Wednesday’s training session. If the former Borussia Dortmund star cannot play on Friday, then the Bavarians will truly be left scrambling and will have to use someone playing out of position.

So…who should get the nod? Let’s look at the options:

  • Raphaël Guerreiro: Whether he is injured or not remains to be seen, but should Bayern Munich lean on the veteran if he is even a smidge banged up or sick?
  • Josip Stanišić: The Croatian did make his debut for the first team at left-back, but he is also needed at center-back thanks to the injury crisis at that position.
  • Sacha Boey: Largely forgotten about these days, Boey is a natural right-back, but could be flipped off to the left in this type of situation.
  • Leroy Sané: This would be outside the box, but the winger could make a spot start if needed at left-back.
  • None: Vincent Kompany should change the formation and use a back three with a couple of wing-backs working on the flanks.
