A Premier League great has revealed that Donald Trump had snipers watching as the two men played golf together in a ‘mad’ round.

Despite being busy dealing with all of the responsibilities that comes with being the president of the United States, Trump always make sure to put time aside to enjoy a round of golf at one of popular courses that he owns across America.

Throughout his golfing career, the 78-year-old has played with some of the very best athletes in the world, including the likes of Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.

However, a top Premier League legend has revealed that while playing golf with the American President, he noticed that security with snipers were positioned across the course.

During his time at Major League Soccer side DC United, Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney linked up with Trump for a round at the Trump National Golf Club back in 2019.

The two men discussed various topics throughout the round, including Rooney’s playing career and the possibility of Trump’s son Barron getting football lessons form the England legend.

But while speaking with Gary Neville on The Overlap, Rooney, admitted that it was bizarre how intense the security was for their meeting.

“The maddest thing about it was we had [former New York mayor Rudy] Giuliani in the buggy behind us,” Rooney said.

“Then there were about 50-100 golf buggies that were all security. There was a boat in the lake with snipers, there were snipers in the bushes, and I was like, ‘What’s going on here?!'”

Former United masseur and close friend of Rooney, Rod Thornley gave further details of the round of golf, claiming that both he and Rooney had been ‘steaming’ drunk when they met the US president and that Rooney failed to correct Trump when he got his facts wrong.

Speaking on the Under the Cosh podcast, Thornley claimed Trump told the group: “‘This guy, this guy, he scored five goals for DC United’

“And I’m looking at Wazza, going ‘go on, correct him’.”

He said Trump then asked Rooney to confirm his account, saying: “Didn’t you, Wayne? Five goals, Wayne!” – to which, he claims, Rooney replied: “Yeah, yeah, I did.”

“I’m like, ‘you lying b*****d, tell him the truth’,” Thornley joked.
