Liverpool fans think someone ‘needs a raise’ after official club account slyly mocks Everton star Jordan Pickford

Liverpool took a significant step towards the Premier League title on Wednesday with a 1-0 win in the Merseyside derby.

The Reds exacted revenge on Everton after James Tarkowski spoiled their celebrations in February with a 98th minute equaliser in the 2-2 draw at Goodison Park, as a goal from Diogo Jota put Liverpool 12 points clear at the top of the Premier League.

There were – however – a few hairy moments for Sam Barrott to sort out.

Tarkowski remarkably avoided a red card for lunging in on Alexis Mac Allister.

Additionally, Darwin Nunez somehow picked up a yellow card after Jordan Pickford clattered the Uruguay international, a challenge which easily could have resulted in a penalty for Liverpool.

The Everton No.1 was involved in another situation towards the end of stoppage time, racing out of his goal to try and score a late equaliser, only for Barrott not to give Liverpool an advantage despite the open net after a foul occurred.

Pickford is a divisive figure at Anfield after famously injuring Virgil van Dijk in October 2020 – and some fans have now spotted the official Liverpool account on X (previously known as Twitter) mocking the England international.

Fans react as Liverpool tease Jordan Pickford

Arguably the most memorable Merseyside derby moment involving Pickford came back in December 2018 – when the glovesman dropped the ball on the head of Divock Origi, allowing the Belgian to nod in a 96th minute winner.

Liverpool made a graphic to celebrate 100 Merseyside derby wins after victory at Anfield on Wednesday, and in doing so, slyly mocked the man from Washington, including a photo of his mistake right at the bottom of the image.

One Liverpool fan called on the Reds to “give the person who made this a fat bonus” after noticing the dig at Pickford – clearly delighted by the tiny jibe.

A second Liverpool fan couldn’t contain their laughter, writing “HAHAHAHAH” on X along with a string of chuckling emojis.

Furthermore, two other Liverpool fans praised the club’s social media administrator for including the famous moment involving Pickford – who Chelsea admire – writing “admin needs a raise” as another posted “is right” in response.

Elsewhere, a fifth Liverpool fan said they “love this” – also adding a laughing emoji.

Last but not least, a sixth Liverpool supporter echoed the sentiments of those above, calling for the Reds to give “whoever made this” a “raise” for their clever thinking.

Was Liverpool’s goal offside?

David Moyes and thousands of Everton fans have voiced their frustration at the manner in which Jota scored on Wednesday, arguing that Luis Diaz was stood in an offside position and influencing the play, despite not touching the ball.

Had the Colombian made any movement towards the ball, it is likely VAR would have disallowed it.

However, it was allowed to stand after several details were taken into consideration – which you can see under Law 11 on the official Football Association (FA) website.

Diaz – who simply stood still – would have been offside if the below occurred:
