Here we go again…
With a contract running through 2026, Bayern Munich center-back Dayot Upamecano is at a crucial juncture of his career.
The French center-back, who is making an annual salary of €10 million, must decide if he wants to work on a new deal with Bayern Munich or test out the transfer market. At 26-years-old, this is Upamecano’s chance to really strike it rich with a contract…but can Bayern Munich afford yet another mega-deal?
If the Bavarian club wants to keep Upamecano, it might have to open its coffers (again) per kicker journalist Georg Holzner (via @iMiaSanMia):
Dayot Upamecano, with whom Bayern want to extend beyond 2026, is orienting his demands in line with the pay rises of his teammates who have recently extended their contracts.
Upamecano has proven to be an astute signing by the Bavarians, but the Frenchman could test the club’s will — and bankroll — if he wants a deal in the neighborhood of €20 million like teammates Jamal Musiala, Manuel Neuer, and Joshua Kimmich, who recently signed contract extensions with the club.
Can Bayern Munich afford to skimp on an offer to Upamecano or will it have to back up the Brinks truck again?
