“That is what he does…” – Usain Bolt admits there’s one current Premier League star who could beat him in a race

Usain Bolt has previously named the Premier League who he thinks could beat him in a race.

Bolt, 38, will forever be remembered as one of the greatest athletes of all time.

During what was a truly illustrious career, the Jamaican won a total of eight Olympic gold medals and still holds the world record for the 100m and 200m events.

In addition, Bolt also has 11 World Championship golds to his name.

Back in 2023, Bolt revealed that one Premier League star could beat him in a race.

While speaking on talkSPORT, former player Darren Bent asked: “I read an article where you said that [Marcus] Rashford could beat you over 20 yards, is that correct?”

To which Bolt replied: “Yeah! Rashford is quick out the blocks, that is what he does.

“He has that burst of speed but after that, I told him, you could probably get me in 20 [yards]. But after that, it is over!”

Ever since breaking through to the Manchester United first team, Rashford has been known for his pace and skills as he excelled on the wing.

However, in recent years, the 27-year-old has struggled to produce his best football.

After falling out of favour under Ruben Amorim, Rashford left Old Trafford for Aston Villa on loan for the rest of the 24/25 season.

Since working under Unai Emery, the Englishman has shown glimpses of his old self.

According to UEFA, Rashford managed to reach a top speed of 34.32km/h in the Champions League. As per Britannica, back in 2011, scientists managed to clock Bolt running at a top speed of 43.99km/h during a 100m race.

So far, Rashford has scored three goals and assisted four in 11 matches across all competitions.

When asked about Rashford’s recent displays, Villa boss Emery said: “Keep going is the message for him.

“Playing more minutes means he’s getting physically better, he’s scoring more goals. We’re playing him as a striker and trying to compete with Watkins. Maybe going forward we can play them together.”

Villa are back in Premier League action on Saturday when they take on Nottingham Forest at Villa Park.
