Things turned rather sour between Ange Postecoglou and the Tottenham fans after the manager’s gesture towards the away end at Stamford Bridge.
Tottenham Hotspur were beaten 1-0 by their London rivals Chelsea as Enzo Fernandez scored the only goal of the game.
Postecoglou thought Pape Matar Sarr had drawn his team level with a wonderful strike, however, the goal was eventually chalked off for a foul from the Sengelese midfielder.
After the goal was scored, the manager aimed a gesture towards the Spurs fans who had been questioning his in-game management.
Ange Postecoglou’s gesture towards Tottenham fans
Ange Postecoglou was spotted cupping his ears towards the Tottenham supporters after Pape Matar Sarr’s goal and their chants questioning his decision to bring him on, according to John Cross.
“You don’t know what you’re doing,” chants sounded from the away end in West London as the travelling supporters were less than impressed with Lucas Bergvall being withdrawn.
The young Swede was one of Spurs’ few top performers at Stamford Bridge, so the decision to take him off after 64 minutes was a questionable one, to say the least.
Unfortunately for the Australian manager, things got pretty awkward as the goal was ruled out after VAR sent the referee to monitor and a foul was given on Moises Caicedo.
Postecoglou’s future at Tottenham is already in question and, therefore, clashing with his own supporters certainly won’t do him any favours.
Why did Ange Postecoglou actually take off Lucas Bergvall vs Chelsea?
Bergvall was having a great game against Chelsea and was arguably the only bright spark in Postecoglou’s team.

The 19-year-old’s withdrawal either way is tricky to explain, although he did recently pull out of the Swedish national team due to illness.
But either way, it’s not a good look for the Spurs boss to clash with his own supporters, especially when he is under such pressure.
