Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim could spring an attacking surprise for Sunday’s Premier League Manchester derby with Manchester City at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils have some wrongs to right from their recent 1-0 defeat away to Nottingham Forest, where Mason Mount came on for the final few moments and saw a long-range effort fizz just wide.
The former Chelsea man is one of the most natural fits for Amorim’s 3-4-3 shape, and he has been declared fit to start against Pep Guardiola‘s side, even if he is unable to complete the full 90 minutes.
Nevertheless, Amorim may be able to get 60 minutes out of Mount’s legs in one of the number 10 roles behind Rasmus Hojlund, who should be a straight swap for Joshua Zirkzee in the final third.
Alejandro Garnacho is likely to reprise his role, though, meaning that Bruno Fernandes ought to drop back into the engine room alongside Manuel Ugarte as Casemiro is demoted to the bench.
Diogo Dalot and Patrick Dorgu should be shoo-ins in the wing-back positions, and the same goes for Leny Yoro, Andre Onana and Noussair Mazraoui further back, but Matthijs de Ligt is a fresh doubt with an unspecified injury.
As a result, Harry Maguire is primed and ready to start for Man United, who may welcome back Kobbie Mainoo but are still missing Lisandro Martinez (knee), Amad Diallo (ankle), Ayden Heaven (ankle), Luke Shaw (calf) and Jonny Evans (back).
Manchester United possible starting lineup:
Onana; Mazraoui, Maguire, Yoro; Dalot, Ugarte, Fernandes, Dorgu; Mount, Garnacho; Hojlund
