Arsenal resumed Premier League action with a 1-1 draw against Everton at Goodison Park. Leandro Trossard netted the only goal for the visitors in the first half, but Everton equalized shortly after the interval following a penalty conceded by Myles Lewis-Skelly for a foul on Jack Harrison.
Despite five shots on target, the Gunners had to make do with a point. This result has given Liverpool another significant advantage to extend its lead at the top of the Premier League table.
Arne Slot’s team will face Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday and can go 14 points ahead of Arsenal with victory. With Mikel Arteta’s side having just seven games to play it appears a certainty that the title will end up at Anfield.
Fans will now be predicting when Liverpool will be officially champions but speaking ahead of the Fulham game, Arne Slot said he was not getting carried away. He said: “We are not working on theories about how many points this is, this, this. We are taking the challenge of Fulham on for Sunday, where we have to be at our best again, to get a result.
“With eight games to go, it’s every time a challenge, starting Sunday against Fulham, who are having a very good season as well.
“We’ve played 30 games now. Maybe there were three or four where the score was so clear that in the last 20 minutes it wasn’t a problem anymore. Almost all of our other games have been really tight.
“That probably tells you as well how big of an accomplishment it is that we are 12 points clear at the moment and doing so well.
