It was a hard-earned victory for Bayern Munich…
FC Augsburg was giving Bayern Munich all it could handle with an aggressive press and a staunch defense…until a red card changed the game.
FC Augsburg defender Cedric Zesiger was assessed with a second yellow card after a foul on Harry Kane. The foul was considered by some to be controversial, but it was a risk that clearly was not worth taking.
For Kane, there was no doubt about the call.
“It was a clear [second] yellow. He tackled me from behind on the counter. It was dangerous and I could’ve rolled my ankle. We also should’ve had a penalty after that,” Kane said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Of course, Kane went on to score a few minutes later and a late own goal from FC Augsburg made it 3-1. Clearly, Bayern Munich took advantage of the extra space on the pitch and it opened up what was a very compact pitch.
To make matter a little worse (remember an injury situation can always get worse at Bayern Munich), Kane also picked up a knock on the player that has resulted in a swollen ankle.
“I sprained my ankle in the scene just before the red card. I think it’s okay. The ankle is a bit swollen, but I’m used to that. I’ve had a few ankle injuries before, and this is just a minor one. I’m not worried,” Kane told Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
