After four back-to-back draws in the league, Everton could not pass the Merseyside derby test at Anfield. Diogo Jota’s goal brought Liverpool a step closer to the coveted crown, and the Toffees helped their rivals further by snatching two points from Arsenal this afternoon. Despite falling behind in the first half, they found an equalizer soon after the break, thanks to Iliman Ndiaye’s composure from the spot. Neither side found a winner, thus settling for a 1-1 draw at Goodison Park.

Below are the Everton players rated in their 1-1 draw against Arsenal.

Jordan Pickford: 7

Could have done little to stop Leandro Trossard’s strike, but the Englishman was spot on with timely saves, particularly in the second half, to deny Declan Rice and Gabriel Martinelli.

Jake O’Brien: 7

Did not offer much in the attacking third as he focused on his defensive duties with timely tackles and no-nonsense clearances. Had a great time against Raheem Sterling, also did his best to contain Martinelli.

James Tarkowski: 7.5

Dominated the ground duels even though he struggled aerially. Made some timely blocks and interceptions. His tactical foul to stop Myles Lewis-Skelly prevented an attacking threat midway through the second half.

Jarrad Branthwaite: 8

Another comprehensive display from the young Englishman who showed great focus and concentration to pull off a crucial last-ditch tackle, and several headed clearances against the Gunners’ trademark set-pieces.

Nathan Patterson: 6.5

Did not let Ethan Nwaneri cause enough menace in the first half. Bukayo Saka’s arrival made him slightly uncomfortable down the left, and David Moyes decided to take him for Ashley Young for the final 20 minutes of the game.

Idrissa Gana Gueye: 7

His mistake in midfield led to Arsenal’s goal. But the veteran Senegalese was impressive with his high work ethic, dribbles and tackles, preventing the visitors from dominating the midfield battle.

Tim Iroegbunam: 5.5

Got the nod over James Garner, but the young Englishman looked out of his depth in the middle of the park. Was taken off for Garner just over the hour mark.

Jack Harrison: 6.5

Had his moments down the right as he was smart enough to win the spot-kick against Myles Lewis-Skelly minutes into the second half. Was replaced by Dwight McNeil late in the match.

Abdoulaye Doucouré: 5

Lacked the pace and rhythm in the centre of the pitch. Kept on losing duels and getting dispossessed. His off-the-ball work rate was below par throughout the game.

Iliman Ndiaye: 7.5

His goal from the spot earned a point in their last-ever fixture against Arsenal at Goodison Park. Was not always successful with his dribbling attempts, yet the Senegalese combated for possession against Ben White and Declan Rice before making way for Carlos Alcaraz.

Beto: 6

Could not cause enough menace in the Gunners’ half against Jakub Kiwior and William Saliba’s resolute defending. Was replaced by Armando Broja midway through the second half.

Everton Subs vs Arsenal

James Garner: 6.5

Offered more stability in midfield since replacing Iroegbunam.

Armando Broja: 5.5

Hardly had any impact as Beto’s replacement.

Carlos Alcaraz: 6

Combated down the flank during the final few minutes of the contest.

Ashley Young: 6.5

Contained Saka with his sheer experience and expertise as a fullback.

Dwight McNeil: NA

Played too little to warrant a rating.
