Arsenal have conceded yet more ground to Premier League leaders Liverpool as Everton came from behind to record a 1-1 draw with the Gunners at Goodison Park.
The Gunners opened the scoring in the 34th minute as Leandro Trossard drilled home on the counter after being set up by Raheem Sterling.
However, Everton were given the chance to equalise against Arsenal when Myles Lewis-Skelly bundled Jack Harrison over inside the box for a Toffees penalty.
Iliman Ndiaye stepped up and coolly converted his spot kick, a goal which ensured the Gunners would have to make the long journey back to London with just one point.
Arsenal legend Ian Wright gave his verdict on the Gunners’ performance and the result of the game after the full-time whistle went.
Ian Wright admits Arsenal ‘weren’t great’ against Everton and lacked cutting edge
Wright admitted that Arsenal “weren’t great” and could have been a “lot more clinical” in front of goal, which ultimately cost them.
The Gunners’ lack of cutting edge in attack “constantly gave Everton hope” of claiming something from the game, added Wright.
“It weren’t great,” Wright told Premier League Productions. “I thought we could have been a lot more clinical.
“We went in front but we didn’t push to finish the game off. We constantly gave Everton hope they could get something.”
At half-time, Wright had noted how Arsenal were not doing particularly well in the final third, something which persisted after the break.
Wright said at half-time: “I think Arsenal have been pretty dominant in respect of the possession.
“If I’m being totally honest, the final third has been poor.
“I love that Trossard makes that run behind O’Brien, his defending is poor. Any striker, just wants to hit the target from there, through the legs.”
Where Everton draw leaves Arsenal in the title race
Arsenal gave their Premier League title hopes a boost in recent weeks with two league wins in a row, but they’ve been unfortunate to be up against a ruthlessly efficient Liverpool machine.
The Reds have won their last four league games in a row to march towards the title and keep them 12 points ahead of the Gunners.
Arsenal’s draw now sees them 11 points behind Liverpool, who have a game in hand and could go 14 clear should they win at Fulham tomorrow.
For all intents and purposes, the Gunners are out of the title race. Only a catastrophic collapse by Arne Slot’s side would see Arsenal get back in the picture.
Liverpool now need just 11 points from their next eight games to mathematically make sure that the title will go to Anfield.
Arsenal are next in action on Tuesday night when they host Real Madrid in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
