Former Liverpool striker Robbie Keane has thrown his weight behind Alexander Isak as the Reds’ best option for a new striker.
Arne Slot is very likely to be in the market for at least one new forward when the summer transfer window opens. Although Liverpool is closing in on the Premier League title, it has become clear that upgrades are needed in attack.
Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz have all struggled for form of late, although Jota did score the winner in the Merseyside derby earlier in the week. What’s more, with Mohamed Salah’s future still unclear with just eight games to go this season, Liverpool may well need to find a new source of goals.
Some big names have been touted as potential options recently. Newcastle’s Alexander Isak has been one of the most prominent, with the Sweden international enjoying a superb season with 24 goals in all competitions.
Julian Alvarez has also been tipped, with Liverpool having shown an interest in the Argentine last summer as he was leaving Manchester City. The Reds were unable to strike a deal, with the 25-year-old instead heading to Atletico Madrid, where he has impressed this season.
Keane, who was signed by Liverpool back in 2008 and has 126 Premier League goals to his name, has given his expert view on which player the Reds should target this summer if they get the chance. “I can see Darwin Nunez leaving Liverpool in the summer,” Keane told Betway. “I think that’s inevitable. If they can get a lot of money back for him, they’ll get rid.

“If you’re looking for a striker, I think Julian Alvarez is a top, top player, but he’s not a typical No. 9. He can drop into that No. 10 role but they already have Diogo Jota for that. Alvarez can certainly finish, but I would lean more towards Alexander Isak. He’s a No. 9, he gets in behind, he’s quick and he can score goals.”
Another name that has been touted as an option for Liverpool in the past is Viktor Gyokeres. The Sporting CP star has been enjoying an outstanding season, having scored 43 goals in as many appearances.

Arsenal though may now be leading the race for his signature, which may open the door for Liverpool to go after Isak. What’s more, Keane isn’t too certain whether the 26-year-old would be a success in the Premier League.
“Viktor Gyokeres played for my former club Coventry in the Championship, he’s gone to Sporting and done well, but I think the Premier League’s a different animal,” Keane said.
“I know he’s scoring a lot of goals, but the Premier League is such a tough league. I think he could do OK, but he has to go to a club that would really suit him and the way he plays in order to be a success.”
