Liverpool is likely to demand between $52 million and $64 million for Harvey Elliott amid apparent interest from Newcastle.

Elliott has endured a difficult season, barely figuring under Arne Slot having made good strides in his Reds career under previous manager Jurgen Klopp. Elliott suffered a fractured foot at the beginning of the season, and it initially seemed as though that might have been the reason that Slot used him sparingly upon his return to fitness in December, but he has been unable to make any significant inroads in the team in 2025.

The 21-year-old has been restricted to just four starts all season, three of which came in the domestic cups, with the other coming in a Champions League dead rubber against PSV Eindhoven.

Elliott is a boyhood Liverpool fan and leaving the club would no doubt be a difficult decision, but he will not want to experience another season like this one. Football Insider says that Newcastle is interested in signing Elliott, while a number of Bundesliga clubs are also keen, but the Magpies are unlikely to meet Liverpool’s asking price for the player.

Newcastle likes Elliott but he is said to be low down the north-east club’s list of priorities, making it unlikely that it would commit a such a significant amount of money to signing him. Elliott’s biggest contribution this season — although it ultimately counted for nothing — was his winning goal away to Paris Saint-Germain, after which he aired his frustration at his lack of game time this season.

“I’m still young – it’s a hard thing to understand in my head really,” he said. “I’ve played nearly 150 games for Liverpool and I feel like I’m very experienced in terms of that aspect. There are moments within the season where I am getting angry and frustrated because I want to play but at the same time I need to respect the situation. I need to respect the manager’s decisions.

“Some games I’m needed, some games I’m not – that’s just how football is. That’s why I feel like we’re in the position we are in this season because of his decisions.

“As a player you always need to stay composed. Football is full of ups and downs. You can go periods of time without playing – it’s just about staying motivated and mentally right in the head. Moments like [Paris Saint-Germain] keep me motivated and the hunger is still within me to go out and show what I can do.”

Also speaking after that PSG first leg, Slot admitted Elliott deserved more game time: “I see the advantages of playing mostly with the same team because they get used to each other and that helps. But I am also aware you cannot play a season with only 11 players.

“That is why you sometimes saw some players rotating. I don’t do this with 20 or 25 but mostly with 14 or 15, if possible. The others don’t always get the time they deserve. Harvey is a great example of this. He has done so well for this club and he trains well but he is in competition with Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai.”
