Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou’s future is in serious doubt.
The Australian changed the mood around the club with his attacking philosophy in the summer of 2023. His style of football was a breath of fresh air for Spurs fans after previously watching Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho at the helm of their club.
However, a poor end to last season followed by a disastrous campaign this time around has led to some fans turning on Postecoglou.
Now, it looks like people inside the club are changing their stance as well.
What Tottenham sources are saying about Ange Postecoglou ‘for the first time’
Postecoglou has been backed by Tottenham.
Daniel Levy has sanctioned some big signings since the Australian joined the club. Questions can be asked about the recruitment, but money has been spent on the likes of James Maddison, Micky van de Ven and Dominic Solanke.
What’s even more important is that throughout what has been a very difficult season, people inside Tottenham fully supported Postecoglou.
Even when Spurs went through a spell of just one win in 11 Premier League games between December and February, the club stood by him.
However, GiveMeSport have now claimed that ‘for the first time’, sources close to the club think Postecoglou could get sacked.
The report claims that the mood within Tottenham is now shifting, and those ‘who had been unwavering in their belief’ that Postecoglou would stay as the boss until the end of the season are now ‘slightly hesitant’.
Furthermore, it has been claimed that there is a chance that Postecoglou may not even make it to the Europa League clash against Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday.
The report says: “For months, the assumption has been that he would remain in charge until Spurs’ last shot at silverware was extinguished. That may still be the case but, for the first time, some sources close to the club no longer seem quite so sure.”
Should Tottenham sack Postecoglou before their Europa League clash?
Sacking a manager before a season-defining game is nothing new for Levy.
The Tottenham chairman pushed Mourinho out the door just days before the League Cup final a few years ago, much to the surprise of everyone in the footballing world.
Spurs lost that cup final, and there’s every chance that they will get knocked out by Eintracht Frankfurt if they go into that game with Ryan Mason again.
Postecoglou definitely has his flaws, but sacking him before the game on Thursday would be a terrible decision and could cost Spurs any chance they have of going all the way in the Europa League.
Unfortunately for Tottenham fans, it won’t be a surprise at all if Levy lets him go, especially if Spurs don’t beat Southampton on Sunday.
