Augsburg’s form in 2025 has been quite impressive and proved quite the hurdle to overcome.
Augsburg’s defensive stats ahead of the match were well publicized, but it is worth repeating. They had conceded just 4 goals in 11 matches in 2025 and were on a run of 5 clean sheets in a row. They had tasted defeat in the league just 1 of 10 matches, as well. This was the team an injury-riddled Bayern Munich squad had to overcome in their away match on Friday.
Head coach Vincent Kompany had acknowledged the opponent’s strength before the match but did so again after it, as well, while praising his side for overcoming that strength.
“Augsburg away has always been a tough fixture for Bayern. We expected a difficult game,” the former Burnley coach said, via @iMiaSanMia. “We stayed calm after conceding the opener and kept going. Overall, if you see how we played, it was a good away win, we take the 3 points.”
The three points truly are invaluable in ensuring the club’s continued charge for the Bundesliga title. Now the team will need to turn their focus to the midweek Champions League tie against Inter Milan.
